Synopsis of Love and War and Snow
Written by TK
Luke fights the mayor when the mayor insists on doing a stupid Revolutionary War reenactment on the first day it snows in Stars Hollow. Although Luke is vocal in his opposition, he ends up bringing hot drinks to the poor men standing in the snow reenacting.
The first snowfall is a doozy, trapping Rory at her grandparents' house for the night and keeping Lorelai from attending the usual Friday dinner. In her mother's old room, Rory finds an picture of her parents when they were teenagers and pockets it. Since the cook can't get to the Gilmore manse, Rory cooks her grandparents a frozen pizza she finds in the freezer, and even Emily has to admit that with a little grated parmesan, it could pass for gourmet. Rory looks through old photo albums with her grandparents, but the fun night abruptly stops when they get to a picture of Lorelai in a dress for her coming out party that never happened.
Lane has been feeling ignored by Rory since Rory is so tied up with her new school and her new boyfriend. Lane had tried to talk to Rory about Rich Bloomenfeld, the guy in jazz band who she has a crush on, but Rory was too busy with Dean to really listen. That night, Lane, for no reason that she can figure out, reaches out when jazz band is setting up and runs her hand through Rich's hair. Lane runs to Rory's house, totally mortified, only to find it empty. Rory calls home from her grandparents house, and talks to Lane just long enough to realize her friend is really upset before the phone lines go out.
Lorelai, who loves the first snow of the year, goes for a walk and runs into Max Medina, whose car has broken down in Stars Hollow. They finally go on their first date, and have a fabulous time together. (Luke spots the two kissing on the street and can't help but stare grimly.) Lorelai invites Max back to her house, breaking an unwritten rule between her and Rory that she doesn't bring men back to the house. Things are just getting hot and heavy between Lorelai and Max when a teary Lane makes her presence known in Rory's room. Lorelai talks to Lane and makes the young girl feel a bit better about the stupid thing she did when she touched Rich's hair. Lane spends the night in Rory's room and Lorelai ends up putting Max on the couch for the night.
Rory returns from her grandparents house in the morning to find her English teacher asleep on her couch. She is weirded out, but tells her mother that she should feel comfortable bringing men home, and she wants her mother to be happy. Lorelai promises that she's not going to make a habit of bringing men home. Rory and Lane make up and Rory promises to be a better friend. Rory watches her mother and Max drink coffee on the couch and looks at the picture of her parents together that she swiped from Lorelai's childhood room.
